Dream Getaway
If you are looking for an Island getaway, at a reasonable price, then Zanzibar is highly recommended. We spent 8 days on the tropical Island, and it was a beautiful and wonderful adventure that I would suggest for your next holiday. We spent a few days lounging around on the beach, we stayed at the Cristal Resort, which had the basic comforts, and you have direct access to the beach from the resort. If you do stay at Cristal Resort, be sure to order the Cristal Passion cocktail made from fresh passion fruit and vodka it simply delicious!

The spice and city tour is an interesting and informative adventure. The Spice tour is a guided tour of a spice farm, that culminates in a refreshing coconut drink and some interesting flower jewellery. You are able to purchase some interesting lose leaf flavoured tea, including mango tea, vanilla tea and some ginger. More importantly, if you are a South African, I can guarantee you that you will never find a Vanilla pods and Saffron at a cheaper price then in Zanzibar. So stock up on as, much as you can, as you will save a small fortune. Be sure to try the Jack fruit, best thing I tasted whilst I was there, it taste like a combination of pineapple, banana and mango.

The Tour of Stone City is full of rich history, interesting architecture and fascinating doors.
The Blue Safari, is a once in a life time experience, drive out into the middle of the ocean onto a deserted island, for some snorkeling, whilst a local sea food feast is prepared (the lobster is beyond sublime) that you enjoy on the remote island... romance with a capital R!
Do also check out prison island, where there is a giant tortoise sanctuary. If you are brave enough, and are up to saving some cash, negotiate with your stone city tour guide, to take you on local transport instead of taking the hotel cabs. The local transport works out to about a third of the hotel cab. This way you can also negotiate directly with the boat drivers, this also brings the price down substantially. Everything in Zanzibar is negotiable... you must just be willing to try!
